one large room, 400 volunteers, five out of ten sessions- two days of great fun!

Well it's been a busy few days.
On friday (day 4) we had a lie in then headed out to Fulham again where Dan and Mike gave us a run down on the bariatrics unit and how they go about moving the overweight. They no longer load a hospital bed into a furniture lorry! Now they have a special ambulance loaded with special gear and a trained team who go out and spend several hours moving a patient. The stretcher goes into the regular ambulance and the bariatrics crew go to the hospital to unload again. They have an inflatable matress and a hover matress which looks REALLY cool but we didn't get a chance to see it in action as the crew were called out on a job.
Then we met John who is a BIG ex New Yorker who is on the PS (psych) unit. he raqn us down on how they use de-escalation techniques, chemical and physical restraints on mental health patients. They will use Midazolam to sedate patients for as long as it takes to get them to hospital- as John said you really don't want some of these people coming round halfway through a 3 hour plane transport! He also showed us how to restrain a pateint on a stretcher with a net by strapping Pete down- all at no extra charge. They will also use wrist and ankle restraints.
Once we had finished at Fulham we had a free afternoon so after a very good seafood lunch we got dropped off at Glenelg on the coast for a wander and then took the tram back into town for a look at the shops.
In the evening we went down to the hall where conference registration was held and got more presents and a conference badge as well as a chance to meet the locals.
